A Trip Down Memory Lane…

Thanks to Loobylu whose blog post reminded me of one of my early influences in art and illustration. When I was a little girl, my mom and dad had an old gift box they’d held onto, and it had a pattern of Gibson Girls all over the lid. I loved those beautiful, subtly expressive faces and it was my dad who explained what they were.
Over the years, I have seen them here and there and one of my favourite places is on wallpaper in bathrooms. At some point in the last 30 years, this must have been a popular motif, because I have seen it more than once… Apparently, the wallpaper was designed by Charles Dana Gibson himself, and was originally created to decorate the walls of bachelors’ rooms featuring a dense pattern of Gibson Girl faces.
Those beautiful faces certainly have stuck with me over the years. They have inspired with their beauty and sass, so thanks for the reminder Claire!
